Seventeenth episode synopsis

"Tenchiken's" synopsis

I didn't get around to writing a proper synopsis to the 17th episode before "Tenchiken" sent this one to the mailing list. Perhaps eventually I shall write one myself, but for now, I present what "Tenchiken" wrote, my comments on this that I also sent to the mailing list, and then some new stuff I've learned.

By the way, even though this is presented in "pre-formatted" style, I must confess that I re-formatted his text to fit 72 character lines.

Subject: Shin Tenchi Muyo! 17 synopsis. 

The fallout from last weeks kiss between Sakuya and Tenchi is growing.
The episode starts with Ryouko floating above water, in the darkness,
taking a gem (ala Tenchi OVA), and dropping it in the water. The gem
falls back to her, and she drops it again. This time the gem turns into
a crystal, and falls in front of Yuugi. The gems for the entire family
float in from of Yuugi (BTW, The crystals, including Sakuya's all fit
together). The gems start to orbit Yuugi, and the red gem that is Ryouko
started distancing itself, and flying off. Yuugi laughes.

We see Sakuya running towords Tenchi apartment, completly out of breath,
but very exited.

Ryouko is sitting on a bridge, looking out at the city. She finnaly
get's so upset that she sends an electric shock along the bridge. She
sits by herself in a corner, and two dorks come and start to hit on
her/suggest "activities". (As close as I can figure). She again gives
off electricity, scaring the living hell out of thoose punks. She is now
on the top of the roof, and she thinks she hears Tenchi, and she sees
Tenchi floating in and out. He disappears right before Ryouko would have
touched him. Ryouko looses it. But as she does, something starts
spitting energy darts at her (whatever they touch, disolves). Ryouko
runs away because she can't find the source, she runs thru a building,
to come out at the castle from Episode 4. A Big explosion hurts Ryouko.
Tenchi "feels" something, eating dinner with Sakuya. Homatsu shows up,
and Ryouko is certain that he is responsible. Homatsu denies it, and
finnaly, Ryouko is attacked by about 200 GP robots. Homatsu-san blows
them up.

Tenchi and Sakuya are in Tenchi's appartment. Tenchi circled a day on
the calander (The date of the last Shin Tenchi Episode 7/25/1997 ! -
Real time Tenchi). I _THINK_ Tenchi and Sakuya are planning on going to
the beach. The last time Tenchi was there, was with his mom (Tenchi
looks six or seven). (OVA Design Achika BTW ;-) I _THINK_ Tenchi says
that Sakuya reminds him of his mom. Sakuya is taken aback (in a good
type of way).

Aeka is walking towords the house, Tenchi's "Fight" playing thru her
head.

Ryouko is attacked by more GP Robots, while Homatsu rubs in
Tenchi/Sakuya, (Flash back to the kiss). Ryouko becomes so pissed that
she crushes all of the robots.

Aeka walks to Funaho. Tsuguri shows up, and shows Aeka, Tenchi's kiss.
Aeka doesent belive him, Tsuguri gives Aeka a small pane of glass (sorry
folks, don't understand enough Japanese to know what on earth the glass
is).

It is a quit morning in the Tenchi domicile !!!! Aeka walks over to the
phone but can't bring herself to call. Sasami comes over and dials the
phone. Aeka asks Tenchi about Sakuya, Tenchi is about to tell Aeka what
happaned when Sakuya shows up to walk with Tenchi to school (they are
late). Aeka hears Sakuya's voice over the phone.

We see a ship (which looks amazingly like the ship in El-Hazard II (the
skiff), on board are Ryouko and HOMATSU! leaving earth.

We see a close up on Yuugi and a crystal. Yuugi says "Bye-Bye Ryouko"
and Laughs.


Comments: Whoa! Sugoi! Tenchi and Sakuya are _definitly_ in love. There
are several moments in this episode (tho no kisses ;-( Next weeks
preview is Aeka, Washu, Kiyo-miho. So the civil war has begun.

The animation quality in this episode is awesome, but still not to the
level of Episodes 5-10 for Sakuya.

BTW, I also saw Escaflowne 1-8, Childs Toy 2-4, and FY 1-4 this weekend.
SUGOI! *GASP* Must have more Escaflowne *Gasp*.

My comments on "Tenchiken's" synopsis

OK, in preparation for my synopses, I will, for completeness's sake,
add my comments to "Tenchiken's" synopsis of the 17th episode:

For the first time, we see the images of Tenchi's family in the crystals.

The vision of Tenchi looks like a staticky video image dropping in and out.

Tenchi continues to be a bit distant as Sakuya prattles on.

Not quite -- the 17th episode was broadcast 1997 Jul 22.  Things are
happening fast.  That date won't be reached until the 21st episode,
broadcast Aug 19.

The whole class is going, I gather.

I don't know either.  It's transparent, rectangular, and small enough to
be held in the hand.  Ayeka is holding it during the call to Tenchi,
but I don't recall seeing it again.

After Tsugaru gives it to Ayeka, she (I think Tsugaru is supposed to be
male, but I find that hard to credit) walks away.  Ayeka calls after
her "Wait!" but Tsugaru is already gone.

This is kind of cute.  Sasami sees Ayeka at the phone, and realizes she
wants to talk to Tenchi about something.  So she walks up, and calls
Tenchi.  And they chat about nothing in particular, and then Sasami
says that her sister wants to talk to Tenchi, and she hands her the phone.

Ayeka finally brings herself to ask just a little bit about Sakuya,
nothing really direct.  Tenchi doesn't answer for a while, and then
Sakuya comes up.  Ayeka hears her, and Tenchi excuses himself and heads
off to school.  (I think that's what happens.)

Ayeka is stunned, and Sasami sees this, and she becomes disturbed.

The Tenchi family cracks further in the next episode.  The general thrust
of the next episode is pretty clear, but I'm missing a lot of the little
details.  Ah well, you'll see what I mean soon enough.

My further comments on this episode

What does Tsugaru tell Ayeka? She says that Tenchi's heart has been captured by Sakuya and that Tenchi will not be coming back home. Ayeka, shocked, tries to deny this.

What does Ayeka say to Tenchi on the phone? She's very worried, and she wants Tenchi to come home.
